Recently promotion through quota system was breaking news on almost all Indian news channels, lot of us enjoyed discussion on this topic but the question remains untouched and unanswered. When we look at the arguments that ruling parties and their allies are making it looks like we are not willing to push the status of the reserved class people. It clearly indicates that we want to keep them where they are. Consistency on providing reservation first at entrance examinations and now in promotion shows that how bad the policies are designed. Very good example of policy paralysis.
Providing reservation in different state and central government services will have its own adverse effect on the system, where productivity will suffer due to dissatisfaction of talented resources. Few people are advocating about the representation of caste in every area of public service as their old generations have suffered a lot, fair enough but what about the talent. One should clearly understand when inelegance is the demand of the hour then selection and promotion system based on caste will be enough for demolishing entire system which stands on pillars’ of talent.
One thing all of us should understand is that Reservation was proposed to encourage the backward people to come forward and connect them with mainstream growth it was a tool created and designed for promoting better education and facilities for the poor people, eventually it became the tool for the vote bank enhancement, most of the parties uses this tool for this purpose where volume of vote bank depends on how well you calibrate this tool.
Reservation and poverty is enjoyed by the political parties in India which should be stopped by very constructive initiative and informed citizenship, this can only happen when every educated Indian participate actively on choosing their leader. At the same time we/government should encourage people financially, morally to only those who feel that they are suffered due to lack of opportunities in the past but not at the cost of Merit.
